The Ibizan Hound breed is woven into our lives. Initially, their unique, refined, natural appearance attracted us to this ancient breed. Originating from Egypt, these hounds were bred on Ibiza, a small island off the coast of Spain for rabbit hunting and other live game. These are agile hounds, quick and intense.
Ibizan hounds require a large, safe, five to six foot high fenced area for daily exercise when off lead.
As companions, Ibizan hounds are attentive, sweet and loyal and often possess keen hunting instincts which could be a challenge to obedience enthusiasts! Exhibiting in conformation, lure coursing and agility are also great ways to have fun with your hounds and earn titles.
We have selectively bred on occasion since 1988. In 1994 we bred our first litter out of "Casa" and then bred "Mara" in 1998 and repeated this breeding in 2001.These three litters have produced very nice pups that have gone on to Winning Top AKC Awards.
Our dogs are tested OFA (hips), CERF (eye), BAER (hearing) clear and THYROID/ FreeT4 test . Puppies are BAER tested. We are participating in the DNA Research for epilepsy in Ibizan Hounds at the University of Missouri to help find a genetic marker to eliminate this disease. Health, temperament, structural stability and function are our greatest concerns.
